A keyboard, a camera, and an AI-capable Linux computer the size of a credit card pulled in over 10,000 backers. The pitch is charming; the use case is the real question.
Every so often a gadget shows up that is less a product than a dare. The latest is a pocket computer[1] that crams a full keyboard, a camera, and a Linux-capable brain onto something roughly the size of a credit card.
It clearly struck a nerve. The crowdfunding campaign[2] blew past ten thousand backers, which tells you the appetite for tiny, tinkerable hardware is nowhere near satisfied. People do not just want a computer that works. They want one they can open, script, and carry in a wallet.
Under the hood it follows a familiar playbook, building on the same compact compute-module idea[3] that made small single-board computers a maker staple. The twist is integration. The built-in keyboard and camera mean it can be a standalone field device, not just a board waiting on a pile of peripherals.
The honest question is what you actually do with it. AI capability on a device this small means modest on-device models or a tether to something bigger, not a pocket data center. But that has always been the point of this class of gadget. It is a permission slip to experiment, and at this size, that is plenty.
